In the world of single tap games, Jelly Jump comes across as quite the refreshing change. With a minimalist approach and a decently designed interface, the game is visually quite well placed.
The aim of the game is simple. Your character is a blobby cube of vibrantly colored jelly that is trying its best to get to the platform above. The room underneath the blob is filling up with a mucky black liquid that will end your character by drowning, the second it touches it.
All you have to do is tap the screen to make the jelly jump upwards to slip in between the platform as it closes in. Seems pretty simple until you get to the point where you narrowly miss getting the closing arms of the platform above you and land back into the black ink of destruction. Jump too soon and you land back into the black ink, jump too late and you either bounce back off the underside of the platform, or even worse, get stuck in between the two closing arms of the platform.
The game is all about timing, about how quickly you react; or even how well you can hold yourself off from tapping the screen prematurely. This is one game that definitely caught my attention as I do tend to get a little trigger happy and tap the screen a bit too early for my good. Needless to say, after a good 45 minutes on the game, I’m still at a high score of … 8. Yup, that’s embarrassing.
The game in itself does not feature too many elements and can become boring easily. However, as you progress in the game, you get to collect little jelly blobs and craft newer jellies. This does seem to be a bit of task when you seem to keep drowning on every other attempt though…. The higher you get in the game, the more access you have to power ups; some of which are quite cool in that they let you bypass a few platforms and others which slow time down. You can also purchase these power ups using collected jelly blobs.

Jelly jump is available for download on devices supporting iOS7.0 and up, and Android 2.3 and up.
